URL encoding explained
URLs may only contain a limited set of ASCII characters. Everything else (spaces, non-Latin letters, &, = inside values, …) must be percent-encoded as % followed by two hex digits of each UTF-8 byte. For example, a space becomes %20 and é becomes %C3%A9.
- Component mode (like
encodeURIComponent) escapes reserved characters too. Use it for individual query values or path segments. - Full URL mode (like
encodeURI) keeps:/?#&=intact. Use it for a complete address. - Form encoding (
application/x-www-form-urlencoded) writes spaces as+.
URL parser
Paste a full URL to see its protocol, host, port, path and fragment, and edit its query parameters in a table. The rebuilt URL updates as you type.
